Why Did We Form

We began as a group of new mums who met at the local mother and baby group.  As most of us were new to Saddleworth our children provided us with a great excuse to go out and meet other women in the area.  It made us realise that there was space for a modern women’s group - a group which would allow women of all ages and from diverse backgrounds to meet, learn new skills and make lasting friendships. Forming a WI seemed like the obvious choice as Saddleworth had previously had a WI and the WI ethos matched our own objectives.

Saddleworth is an idyllic area, steeped in tradition, with a real community spirit.  It was hoped that in setting up a new WI we could be part of that thriving community by bringing women together and raising money for local causes.  Following our initial meetings in the summer of 2008 our launch in October 2008 was an unprecedented success and we continue to have a large membership and an exciting programme which combines contemporary and traditional speakers.

Where Do We Meet

We meet from 7.30 pm for an 8 - 8:15 pm start on the first Wednesday of each month at The Royal George, Manchester Road, Greenfield, OL3 7HX. (See map)

Monthly Meetings

At the monthly meetings we update members with the news from the Lancashire Federation, the Sub Groups and any fundraising events.

Committee Meetings

The Committee meet once a month before the main meeting, to deal with the running of the WI.

If you are interested in joining the Committee then please speak to a current Committee Member who will be able to let you know if there are any places available.
