Walking Group

You would be very welcome to try walking with us. Just let us know you are coming then turn up at the starting point, adequately equipped with appropriate footwear (preferably boots), warm and waterproof clothing. If you feel you need more information to check how hard the walk would be, to ensure that you would be fit enough, directions to the starting point or any further advice please contact us at

Members and visitors who walk with us are responsible for their own conduct and safety. Neither Saddleworth W.I. nor any walk leader is responsible for any accident or incident that may occur.

May Walk - Sunday 5th May

Circular walk from Ramsden Reservoir, Holmbridge

Meeting point - Ramsden Reservoir Car Park. Ordnance Survey Map OL1 Map Ref. SE 117057 (see driving directions below)

Date / time - Sunday 5th May at 10.30am

Distance - 6 / 7 miles

Grading - moderate / moderately difficult

Details - A circular walk following paths and lanes, passing through some woodland. Some uneven ground and a few hills.

Refreshments - No pubs/cafes en route so please bring a drink and a snack/sandwich for a short break half way.

Driving directions - Take the A635 Isle of Skye road to Holmfirth. On approach to Holmfirth at the junction take a sharp right turn onto the A6024 towards Holmbridge and Holme. At Holmbridge, after the church, turn left and follow the lane up to Ramsden Reservoir. There is a car park on the left hand side of the road or if this is full you can park along the lane.

May Evening Walk - Tuesday 21st May

Circular walk from Dobcross New Road via Harrop Edge and Diggle

Meeting point - Car park at Dobcross New Road above the garden centre

Date / time - Tuesday 21st May at 6.30 pm

Distance - 5.5 miles

Grading - moderate

Details - A circular walk mainly on tracks but there are a couple of short sections on the side of the A62. We will walk via Dobcross onto Harrop Edge then around Dean Head and drop down into Diggle, along the canal towpath back to the start.

Refreshments - Those with stamina ( or a thirst ) can go up to the Swan in Dobcross for a well earned drink.

 *****Please note that as it is lambing season dogs will need to be on leads*****
